Failover is a mechanism that ensures service continuity whereby single-point failures are eliminated. It is a mechanism because failover has to be meticulously designed, implemented, and deployed. There are several types of failover mechanisms but the most resilient configuration spans geographical locations.

Geographical failover is a redundant system that is made to survive disruptions that can involve whole regions. Geographical failover eliminates all weaknesses inherent to natural disasters, man-made disasters, mistakes, and law enforcement orders.

The main and backup VPS each reside in different and independent facilities. Should one facility drop off the Internet for any reason, the backup node takes over. The database and content is replicated across both nodes at all time. The failover VPS mechanism that we have devised is fully automatic and does not need human intervention to work.
